Contest log
June 21st 15:30 PM:
Contest day number 7 is cancelled due to
deteriorating weather in the afternoon. We hoped for a break in the clouds
and the rainshowers to stop. The result list is now official and final. In
Norglide 2003 Rune Leander from Sweden is the winner, Börje
Gustavsson also from Sweden on second place and Jo Inge Bjørø on the third
place. The prizegiving and closing ceremony will take place at 6:00pm this
evening. A barbeque party will start immediately after the closing
ceremony.
Thanks to the gliding community for following
the contest on this site and welcome to the 3rd Club Class World Gliding
Championships in Elverum next year.
June 21st 12:00 PM:
Day number 7 started with a rather low, broken
cloud base with sunny spells in between. The low pressure system
north of Elverum, with a through situated over the eastern part of Norway,
leaves a rather unpredictable weather situation for the site. A
short Assigned Area Task has been set for the day, but the launch
has been postponed twice. The rain has stopped and the sky presently
looks brighter. New possible launching time is 13.00.
June 20th 6:00 PM:
The swedish Rune Leander made his day during
Day 6 in Norglide 2003. Leander beat Ståle Lien as second and Petr
Koutny (CZ) as number three.
June 20th 6 PM:
To days task is task A.

Starmoen. Task distance is 119,6 km.
The alternativ task (task B) is a
Racing task from Elverum to Kirkenær Railway station, Klovstadsetra,
Opphus Bridge and back to Starmoen. Task distance: 219,7 km.
First launch is at 11.00 AM and the start
will be closed at 3.00 PM. JEK -S/NLF

The last pilot just reported out-landing at Hamar
airport.
So the score board will get a late evening.
June 18th 20:15 PM
We are missing results from 1 pilot, so the final scores will take some
time.
Only the mentioned 4 pilots made the task
complete. Follow the preliminary results
here...
June 18th 6:15 PM
4 pilots have fullfilled the task so far.
Rune Leander, Børje Gustavsson, Geir Rausandmoen and Anders
Skifjell are so far the 4 pilots completed the task.
3 other pilots have more than 100 km even if field landed, so that is
making this day #5 valid as well. Still 2 pilots are in the air.
The Norglide reporter have today flown with the group of pilots up to the
first way-point with Cloudbase at 13-1400 meters, but went thereafter
north to get higher to have the best overview. The cloudbase was today
1900m at Koppang. On the way back south again the cloudbase dropped
drasticly down to 900 meter at Rena and further south was there nothing
left to fly on. It was also 15-20 knots headwind from south-west. A
blocking stratus layer covered the sky in the area from Starmoen and
west against the Lake Mjøsa. This explains why som many pilots got trouble
today. JEK/OleB - S/NLF 18.06.03

June 18th 11:38 AM
Last ordinary tow is in the air, and the start line opens in 20 minutes at
11:58 AM.
One glider took tow after ordinary position. The present weather is
good with front wind from west at the first two way-points.
It is possible todays task and weather developement, tempter the pilots to
go for tactical flight today. What if the cloudbase stays at 5/7 and rais
higher in the afternoon ? Instead of over-developing? We
believe this will be a thrilling day - with suprises, and what a
speedy finalgilde it will be! Stay Tuned. OLEB -

June 18th 10:20 AM
Briefing due. We believe the conditions will be best north-west to day.
The todays task
is therefore set in this direction, and will bring the pilots into new and
beautiful areas west of the Lake Mjøsa. From start it goes up to
Klovstadsetra west of Rena, then straight west of Lake Mjøsa and
Dokka , up to Tretten in Gudbrandsdalen and back. Total distanse will be
258 Km. Since we expect overcasting later in the afternoon, the task is a
litlebit shorter than the present weather invite to.
First launch will be 11:00 AM sharp!OLEB - S/NLF

The first pilot crossed the finish line at 4.09 and six others have landed
on base so far.
The pilots who have fullfilled the task reports OK
conditions up to Koppang with average cloudbase at 1600 meters. Steinar
Øksenholt who hold the preliminary lead position, told us he reach 2250
meters over Atna.
Four pilots has not fullfilled the task , and two of them are
reported landed outfield. All the others has crossed the final line.

A task is set for the day and Grid are closing 11:30 AM
The management decided an
Assign Area Task from Starmoen to
Koppang with 20 km can (North in the Østerdalen valley) , and return
to Starmoen. Minimum task time is set to 1:45
June 17th 10:20 AM
The briefing is held, and the conclusion is that no task is set at
moment.
The weather forcast is very unsure, but it might be
that the present situation will stand. Different weather centers forcast
different, but an inversion at 1500 meter is well defined. We hope the sun
will burn out this thin layer. If so happens, termals will be generated
imidiate due to the days syntetic sounding curve for temperature an
dew-point .
New briefing is decided at 11:00 AM -OLEB - S/NLF 17.06.03

and is at moment blocking the sun. -Photo by OleB.
June 17th 7:00 AM
The coffee is ready and the weather look's like yesterday
morning, apart from some stratus-clouds comming in from south. In fact it
seems like an invertion has establish over south-eastern Norway. This
generates the cloud-cover visible just now that... might ruin this day #4. OLEB - S/NLF 17.06.03

June 16th 5:50 PM:
The calculated handicap will define todays winner in a close race.
The desk's representative has also been in the air
today for 3 hours and can report perfect conditions.
As expected the cloud-base today was well defined at 1400 meter at start
time and just over 1900 meters later in the afternoon.
The last leg was flown straight home at high speed by most of the pilots.
As reported Petr Koutny was the speediest pilot, but after calculating the
handicaps the preliminary list shows a very close race between 3
pilots.
Borje Gustavsson is for the time being #1 and Staale Lien #3 with
Petr Koutny as #3. The preliminary total list now shows Kato Kvitne in the
lead.OLEB - S/NLF 16.06.03
Borje Gustavsson from Sweden might have made the best flight today in
his fancy Jantar Std.
June 16th 4:30 PM:
16 pilots have crossed the finish line. 1 pilot is still in the
air.
Petr Koutny (CZ) fastest pilot with 100,4 km/h.

June 16th 11:48 AM:
Last tow is in the air and the start line opens 12:08 PM
At moment the cloudbase is aprox. 1300 m and is expected to
vary from 900 to 2000 meters. Temperature is about 15 degrees C - expected
max at 19, and there might be CU's later this evening. At moment clouds
are scattered with 5/8.
June 16th 10:45 AM:
Best outlook so far for both thermals and cloudbase, at this 3rd
competition day.
Even if the forecast has changed during the night and early
hours this morning, it seems to be the best day so far.
The Competition Management have today decided a task where the pilots also
will fly north. The total distanse is 363 km and the first waypoint is set
at Favang church. The pilots will fly in both the Gudbrandsdalen and
the Østerdalen area today.
Grid close at 10:50 AM and first launch will be 11:00 AM

Unofficial results after day 2 presented
here.
June 15th 5:00 PM:
All pilots have fullfilled the task today.
The common response from pilots we have spoken to, is that the Day 2
task was just perfect. Just after the last pilot finished, the thermals
ended as well. Jostein Tangen reported no lift the last 30 km at the
finel glide. He fullfilled together with Staale Lien. Staale is the last
years winner in the National Club Class, and on the preliminary lists
he seems to be number 2 today, with Jo Inge Bjørø as No.1 and
Mattis Thørud at 3rd place.

first start in 20 minutes. The startline opens at 13:43
The wheather seems to develop better than the forcast stated earlier
this morning, and the Contest Management expect most of the pilots to take
an early start. The task is set for worse weather than we have just now,
so this seem to be a "Hot Race" where every second will cont.
